"My nine-year-old son has seen the footage and he just said 'Dad, you're an idiot," said the father.

A CCTV footage has captured a terrible moment that a father who tried to create a DIY fire, which the thing goes extremely wrong, causing himself to the fire. 

The father-of-two Scott Buckley from Rochdale, Greater Manchesterfrom, turned into a human firecall after pouring pain pinners onto wood he was burning. 

He was survived with only minor buens to his legs. The father, who is a builder and a businessman, described the accident as "the most stupid thing he's ever done."

Scott and his friend Jon Glennon were burning timber left over at his back garden when they decided to use an old tin of paint thinner to get the fire started. The accident happened as they poured the flammable liduqid on the blaze, leading an explosion. 

The fire and smokes reached 15ft into the air while 43-year-old Scott ran away the fire. 

"It just went off like a bomb," he said. "The tin exploded and hit the garage and the flames just went right up my legs and back."

He shouted to his friend to ask for help and he shouted back "Bucko, drop and roll" so he followed. 

Layers of clothing have prevented him burning seriously and saved his life. 

Talking about the experience once again, he said, "Bloody hell, it was scary. It was far and away the most stupid thing I've ever done in my life - and I've done some pretty stupid things.

"I didn't realise the thinners would be so flammable. It was so volatile, I couldn't believe it.

"My nine-year-old son has seen the footage and he just said 'Dad, you're an idiot."

He said the video a health and safety video showing the wrong way to start a fire and he thought he was so lucky.
