The ancient desert city of Dunhuang in northwest China's Gansu Province has integrated modern technologies alongside its spectacular landscape to create unique experiences for tourists, with huge crowds flocking to the stunning location to enjoy a concert under the stars on Saturday.

Lying in an oasis at the edge of the expansive Taklamakan Desert, Dunhuang was once a major stop on the ancient Silk Road, which helped link the East and West through vibrant trade.

One of its most famous attractions is the Yueya Spring, a crescent-shaped lake surrounded by giant sand dunes which is located on the Mingsha Mountain or the "Singing Sand" Mountain. According to ancient historical documents, the dunes and the lake have coexisted for at least two millennia. The sand has never moved into the spring, and the water has always kept a sweet and crystal clear texture, making it a world-renowned scenic spot.

On Saturday, the popular scenic spot was turned into a lively concert stage, coupled with drone and light shows and a spectacular fireworks display which created an unforgettable memory for the many visitors who descended on this historical location.

As night fell, the concert began, with the crowds of attendees swaying to the rhythm of the music while waving colorful glow sticks and shining their cellphone flashlights as they sang along loudly under the starry sky.

"I felt very touched when many people sang and let out their voices," said one tourist.

The overhead drone and light show offered a feast for the eyes, presenting patterns inspired by the famous crescent-shaped lake, as well as featuring camels and other distinctive symbols highlighting the local culture.

The illuminating tech-powered performances were hailed by audience members who were left captivated as the show lit up the skies above them.

"I think it's great. In particular, the light show is impressive. It showcases Dunhuang's culture," said a tourist.

"Local people are welcoming and the fireworks show is breathtaking. Dunhuang of Gansu is great," said another concert-goer.

The enchanting and vibrant displays attracted many residents and tourists to enjoy, who eagerly captured images of the drones forming various patterns, including a roc spreading its wings and iconic city landmarks.

According to the organizer, drone shows will be staged at five different locations for seven consecutive days during the National Day holiday from Oct1 to 7, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, adding luster to the festivity.
