China hosted a space-themed reception at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in Austria's capital Vienna on Tuesday, showcasing its achievements in space exploration and calling for strengthened international collaboration in this field.
The event, themed "Contribution of Chang'e Missions and Celebration of International Space Cooperation", was jointly hosted by the Permanent Mission of China in Vienna, the China National Space Administration (CNSA), and the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), drawing participation from over 400 attendees. Among the guests, Aarti Holla-Maini, UNOOSA's director and a witness of the launch of China's Chang'e-6 mission in May, expressed her appreciation for the country's achievements in lunar exploration. She commended the international cooperation shown through the mission's payloads from different countries, and looks forward to more contributions from China's aerospace sector in space exploration and related scientific research.
A Chinese representative expressed the desire to enhance international exchanges and cooperation regarding the peaceful utilization and governance of outer space, with the goal of establishing a shared future in space with all nations.
Additionally, astronauts from China, Russia, the United States, and Romania shared their space experiences during the reception and called for further strengthening of international collaboration.
On the same day, the UN first-ever meeting on sustainable lunar activities was held in Vienna, attended by heads of space agencies, astronauts, scholars and industry representatives from around the world. Delegates discussed common approaches, priorities, and expectations for the peaceful, sustainable, and cooperative exploration of the moon.
