Embracing a decency quotient (DQ) holds greater significance than IQ and EQ, as it fosters an environment where people feel respected and equally treated, thereby enabling them to achieve success through fair competition, according to World Bank President Ajay Banga.

With extensive corporate executive experience prior to becoming the World Bank president, Banga emphasized the significance of the "decency quotient" concept in business, employing the term both in the corporate world and during his tenure at the World Bank.

"I was trying to explain to employees of my prior company in Mastercard, this is where this happened. That when I was young, what mattered was your IQ. When I got to business school, what began to be talked about was your EQ. You couldn't choose your boss, your colleagues, but how you responded to difficult situations determined your success. And I think in our world, what really matters now is your 'decency quotient,' meaning 'decency' is a word you cannot misinterpret. It basically requires you to make the other person feel like you're equal, to make the other person feel that my hand is on your back and not in your face, to make the other person feel that I will care about giving you a level playing field, so then you can run to win," Banga said in a recent exclusive interview with the China Media Group (CMG).
