Sharing a long-term relationship, Peru and China will continue strengthening cooperation in technology transfer, infrastructure and digital health, said Marco Balarezo, Ambassador of Peru to China in an interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN) in Beijing on Monday.
Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra is on a five-day state visit to China from Tuesday to Saturday. The visit includes stops in Shenzhen - the Silicon Valley of China, Shanghai - the eastern metropolis and business hub, the nearby Suzhou in Jiangsu Province, and the nation's capital Beijing.
Speaking in the interview, Balarezo highlighted three main areas in which the two countries will collaborate more in the future.
"Peru and China enjoy a deep-rooted and long-standing relationship, possibly one of the closest between China and Latin American countries. It is a relationship with a long history. We cooperate in various areas. In fact, China has invested a lot in Peru in terms of mining, electricity and finance. This time, we hope to strengthen cooperation in areas such as technology transfer, which is crucial for a country's progress, especially on artificial intelligence," Balarezo said.
"Additionally, infrastructure remains a significant priority. We need increased connectivity, especially in railways. We have several railway construction projects aimed at enhancing connectivity, which is highly important. A third aspect that is very important is what we call digital health. We need to learn the Chinese experience in all the digitization that is done in hospitals, medical records, treatment, as well as how smart hospitals are operated," he said.
As an important country in Latin America, Peru has established a comprehensive strategic partnership with China.
Since the two countries established diplomatic ties more than half a century ago, bilateral relations have made steady progress and fruitful results of cooperation have been achieved in various fields, bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples.
