From the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence to the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, China has been a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development and a defender of the international order, said a commentary of China Central Television (CCTV) on Thursday.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. Seven decades ago, then Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai put forth these five principles in their entirety for the first time -- "mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, mutual non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence."
"China has been an active advocate and a resolute practitioner of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. They have been written into China's Constitution and serve as the cornerstone of China's foreign policy," said President Xi Jinping at a conference marking the 60th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence in June 2014.
In the course of 70 years, the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence have been embraced by the international community and have become basic norms in governing international relations as well as fundamental principles of international law.
Today, humanity is once again standing at a crossroads of history.
Addressing global threats and challenges, China offers its solution: building a community with a shared future for mankind.
President Xi Jinping first proposed the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind in March 2013 at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, and elaborated on the concept at the United Nations Office at Geneva in January 2017.
President Xi also proposed the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative respectively at the General Debate of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly in September 2021, Boao Form for Asia Annual Conference in April 2022 and a dialogue between the Communist Party of China and other world political parties in March 2023.
For seven consecutive years, the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind has been included in UN General Assembly resolutions.
China has established various forms of community with a shared future with dozens of countries and regions.
Together with other parties, China is advancing the efforts to build communities with a shared future in areas such as health, environment, cyberspace, nuclear security, and maritime affairs.
