China would like to work with Venezuela to better benefit people of the two countries and make greater contribution to world peace and development, said a spokeswoman on Friday.

Mao Ning, the spokeswoman, made the remarks at a regular press conference when addressed the media.

Friday marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Venezuela. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro exchanged congratulations to celebrate this important moment, said Mao.

"No matter how the international landscape may evolve, the two countries firmly understand and support each other on issues involving each other's core interests and major concerns, and jointly safeguard international fairness and justice and developing countries' legitimate rights and interests, forming a hardcore friendship," said Mao.

Last year, President Maduro paid a successful state visit to China. The two leaders jointly announced to bring China-Venezuela relations to all-weather strategic partnership, opening a new chapter for bilateral relations, said Mao.

"At this new historical starting point, China stands ready to work with Venezuela to stay true to the original aspiration of establishing diplomatic relations, carry forward traditional friendship, continuously enrich the connotation of China Venezuela all-weather strategic partnership to better benefit the two peoples and make greater contribution to world peace and development," said Mao.
