Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with visiting Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra in Beijing on Friday, saying China stands ready to work with Peru to advance the comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights.

Xi said both China and Peru are ancient civilizations and enjoy long-standing friendship, adding that the friendship between the two peoples has taken deep roots in their hearts.

Peru is one of the first Latin American countries to establish diplomatic ties and a comprehensive strategic partnership with the People's Republic of China, and is the first Latin American country to sign a package of free trade agreements with China, Xi said.

He said China-Peru cooperation has yielded fruitful results in various fields in recent years, with Chinese enterprises’ major cooperation projects in Peru playing an important role in the country’s economic development and improvement of local people's livelihood.

China attaches great importance to developing relations with Peru and is willing to work with Peru to consolidate political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, promote mutual learning among civilizations, and strengthen multilateral coordination, Xi said.

Xi said that adhering to mutual respect and treating each other as equals are China's consistent approach to getting along with others, and the fundamental reason why China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership has maintained high-level development.

China supports Peru in following a development path suited to its national conditions, and stands ready to work with Peru to firmly support each other and unswervingly advance China-Peru friendly cooperation, Xi said.

Xi said the two sides should give full play to the role of the strategic dialog mechanism on economic cooperation between the two governments, synergize China's eight major steps to support high-quality Belt and Road cooperation with Peru's development demands, coordinate and advance cooperation in mining, energy, manufacturing and agriculture, and expand cooperation in emerging fields such as new energy, digital economy, artificial intelligence and digital health care.

China welcomes more quality Peruvian products in the Chinese market and hopes that Peru will provide a sound legal and policy environment for Chinese enterprises to invest and cooperate in Peru in the long term, Xi said.

Xi said the two sides should make joint efforts to ensure that the Chancay Port will be built as scheduled and become a new land-sea corridor between China and Latin America, so that the "Chancay to Shanghai" route will become a path to prosperity that promotes the common development of China and Peru.

China is willing to provide more scholarships for young Peruvian students to study in China and strengthen cooperation with Peru in education, culture, tourism, youth and media to build more solid public support for the development of bilateral relations, Xi said.

Noting that both China and Peru are important emerging markets on the Pacific Rim and important members of the Global South, Xi said the two sides should strengthen solidarity and coordination, promote the shared values of humanity, advocate an equal and orderly multi-polar world and universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and promote the common development of Global South countries.

Xi said China supports Peru in hosting this year's APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, maintaining the right direction of Asia-Pacific cooperation, and sending out a positive signal of building an open Asia-Pacific economy and jointly promoting world economic growth.

China attaches great importance to developing relations with Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), and is willing to work with LAC countries like Peru to promote overall cooperation and build a China-LAC community with a shared future, Xi said.

Boluarte said she feels honored to visit China with cabinet ministers and representatives of economic circles.

She said both Peru and China are ancient civilizations in the world, and the Chinese have made important contributions to Peru's national development in history.

Boluarte said that exchanges and cooperation between the two countries have yielded fruitful results in politics, economy, trade and culture in recent years.

The investment and cooperation of Chinese enterprises in Peru have not only created a large number of jobs in the country, but also brought advanced technology and experience, she said.

Boluarte said that their visit to Shenzhen, Shanghai, Suzhou and other places in these days has enabled them to personally experience China's rapid development and scientific and technological progress and explore many areas for future cooperation.

Peru admires China's great achievements and hopes to learn from China's successful experience and achieve better development by expanding and strengthening practical cooperation with China, she said.

Boluarte said Peru welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest in Peru and strengthen cooperation in infrastructure, green development and clean energy, adding that Peru is willing to provide a sound business environment for Chinese enterprises.

Peru looks forward to working with China to complete the Chancay Port project as scheduled to benefit the people of the two countries, she said.

Boluarte said the Peruvian government has always upheld the one-China policy since the establishment of diplomatic relationship between the two countries in 1971, and Peru will continue to firmly adhere to the principle.

Peru supports the series of global initiatives proposed by President Xi and is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation with China within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations and APEC, safeguard multilateralism and promote an open world economy, she said.

After the talks, the two heads of state witnessed the signing of a joint action plan between the Chinese and Peruvian government for the 2024-2029 period, and a number of bilateral cooperation documents on economic and trade cooperation, digital economy, scientific and technological innovation, inspection and quarantine, news media and other fields.

The two sides announced the substantive completion of negotiations on upgrading the free trade agreement.

Xi held a welcome banquet for Boluarte on Friday evening.

China's Shenzhou-18 crew trains for 2nd spacewalk

China's Shenzhou-18 crew members on the Tiangong Space Station are preparing for their second extravehicular activities (EVAs) by conducting training that includes science experiments and orbital maneuvers.

Astronauts Ye Guangfu, Li Cong, and Li Guangsu have completed one-third of their six-month mission with stable physical and operational conditions in orbit, since they aboarded the Tiangong two month ago.

During their training, the astronauts used advanced remotely control systems for rendezvous and docking operations on in-orbit training systems and metacognitive training systems, practicing skills such as recognizing images, manual docking, remote docking, and safely undocking of the spacecraft under different initial conditions.

Throughout the training, the astronauts monitored the orientation and relative distance and speed of target spacecraft on screens, practicing precise control of the speed and orientation using specialized handles.

Last week, the crew also underwent exercise-based cardiopulmonary function tests. These tests assess the cardiovascular and respiratory capabilities needed for upcoming spacewalks, using methods to simulate exercise-induced metabolic demands.

The Shenzhou-18 crew was launched into space on April 25, as the third manned mission during the application and development stage of China's space station and the 32nd flight mission of the country's manned space program overall.

The crew members completed their first spacewalk on May 28, according to the China Manned Space Agency.
