China and Peru should make new contributions to the cause of peace and development of mankind with their respective civilizations and wisdom, said President Xi Jinping on Friday while holding talks with visiting Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra in Beijing.

"China and Peru enjoy time-honored friendship, which is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. Not long ago, the Congress of Peru voted almost unanimously in favor of designating February 1 of every year as the Peru-China Fraternity Day. This fully embodies the Peruvian people's friendly feelings for the Chinese people, and China highly appreciates that. The Chinese civilization and the Inca civilization enhance each other's charm in the long course of human history. As important emerging markets on the Pacific Rim and major members of the Global South, the two countries, in the face of changes unseen in a century, should make new contributions to the cause of peace and development of mankind with their civilizations and wisdom," Xi said.

For her part, Boluarte said she expects to see Peru and China, both recognized as birthplaces of human civilizations, will enhance each other's prominence in global civilization.

"We visited the cities of Shenzhen and Shanghai in the past two days and went to Suzhou, yesterday afternoon. In these cities we gained a first-hand understanding of China's rapid development and sci-tech progress, and they showed us the areas where our two countries could further expand bilateral cooperation in the future. I want to reiterate that Peru firmly adheres to the one-China principle. Both Peru and China are ancient histories with a history of several thousand years and cradles of human civilizations. The two civilizations, renowned for their long history and cultural heritage, complement each other and flourish in the history of world civilization," Boluarte said.

Boluarte, who arrived in Beijing on Thursday, is on a state visit to China from June 25 to 29, at the invitation of Xi.

China's Shenzhou-18 crew trains for 2nd spacewalk

China's Shenzhou-18 crew members on the Tiangong Space Station are preparing for their second extravehicular activities (EVAs) by conducting training that includes science experiments and orbital maneuvers.

Astronauts Ye Guangfu, Li Cong, and Li Guangsu have completed one-third of their six-month mission with stable physical and operational conditions in orbit, since they aboarded the Tiangong two month ago.

During their training, the astronauts used advanced remotely control systems for rendezvous and docking operations on in-orbit training systems and metacognitive training systems, practicing skills such as recognizing images, manual docking, remote docking, and safely undocking of the spacecraft under different initial conditions.

Throughout the training, the astronauts monitored the orientation and relative distance and speed of target spacecraft on screens, practicing precise control of the speed and orientation using specialized handles.

Last week, the crew also underwent exercise-based cardiopulmonary function tests. These tests assess the cardiovascular and respiratory capabilities needed for upcoming spacewalks, using methods to simulate exercise-induced metabolic demands.

The Shenzhou-18 crew was launched into space on April 25, as the third manned mission during the application and development stage of China's space station and the 32nd flight mission of the country's manned space program overall.

The crew members completed their first spacewalk on May 28, according to the China Manned Space Agency.
