Residents of Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, are looking forward to the state visit of the Chinese President Xi Jinping to their country, saying that the visit will open a new chapter in Tajikistan-China relations.

President Xi is scheduled to pay a state visit Tajikistan at the invitation of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon after attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Astana summit and paying a state visit to Kazakhstan.

China and Tajikistan have a long history of exchanges, and the ties between the two countries are becoming increasingly solid, with mutual support in many fields, according to the residents.

"President Xi Jinping proposed the vision of a global community of shared future. Tajikistan is not only among the first countries to support the vision, but also Tajikistan and China support each other in many areas," said Parvina Saidova, a resident of Dushanbe.

The China-built roads, libraries, and other infrastructure in Tajikistan have not only brought a new look to Tajikistan, but also facilitated the daily life of the people, and promoted the economic and social development of the local areas.

"China has provided us with a lot of assistance and promoted the development level of our country. They have helped us build the national library, many roads, and other important facilities, making our country more beautiful. Chinese President Xi Jinping and our president have a deep friendship. People of both countries have also been friends since ancient times, and we hope that our friendship will last forever," said Rustam Boboev, another resident.

"We are not only friends, but also close partners in the fields of economics, politics, education, and all other activities. The bond between China and our country is very strong and we always support each other. I hope that in the future, our friendship and mutual understanding will grow ever deeper," said Nigina Rakhimova, also a resident.

Doctor of Economics Rakhmon Ulmasov said President Xi's visit will write a new chapter for the friendship of the two countries.

"I think President Xi Jinping's visit to Dushanbe has opened a new chapter in Tajikistan-China relations. President Xi is very warm and friendly to Tajikistan and to our leader. It can be said that bilateral relations have been developing at an amazing speed in recent years. President Xi is a distinguished guest of our president. The visit of such a big country's leader to Tajikistan represents a new height in our diplomatic relations," said Ulmasov.

Rescue operations are in full swing on Saturday after a dike breach in central China's Hunan Province on Friday afternoon.

A dike of the Dongting Lake burst in Tuanzhou Township, Yueyang City's Huarong County Friday afternoon, causing flooding in the area. All the local people affected have been safely evacuated.

Rescue forces have been working tirelessly, using heavy machinery to place stones along both ends of the dike to seal the gap. The work was still in progress as of 18:00 on Saturday.

"We are using a combination of bidirectional blocking and stone dumping by ships to close the breach. This is a massive task, requiring about 100,000 cubic meters of materials to seal and restore the dike. We will resolutely follow the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping and make every effort to carry out rescue operations to effectively protect the lives and property of the people," said Ji Zhigang, director of the Water Resources Bureau of Huarong County.

A total of 5,755 affected residents have been evacuated in the first time by more than 2,300 rescuers. The residents received 5,000 family emergency kits from the disaster relief, emergency management, and material reserve authorities, and have been transfered to resettlement sites equipped with essential supplies.

"We have food and drink here, such as eight-ingredient porridge, egg cakes, and mineral water. We arrived at the resettlement point at 5:00 in the morning," said an evacuated resident named Bai Yunlan.

Local authorities have also deployed more than 3,000 personnel to reinforce a dike about nine kilometers away from the broken one.

The Ministry of Water Resources has dispatched an expert team to help managing the crisis, and held a flood prevention meeting on Saturday to analyze current situation.
