China urges Germany to provide a fair, just and non-discriminatory business environment for foreign companies including Chinese firms, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Thursday, in commenting on Germany's decision to block a gas turbine transaction between Volkswagen and a Chinese company.

On Wednesday, the German government blocked the sales of gas turbines by a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group to a Chinese company under the pretext of national security.

"China and Germany are important trade partners to each other, and the two countries should logically strengthen economic and trade cooperation based on common interests and market rules and in the spirit of mutual benefit and win-win outcome. The Chinese side is opposed to politicizing normal business cooperation, over-stretching the concept of security, and erecting man-made barriers for such cooperation," said Mao Ning, the spokeswoman, at a press conference in Beijing.

"We hope that Germany will provide a fair, just and non-discriminatory business environment for foreign companies including Chinese firms," she said.

Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has transmitted over 800 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity to other parts of the country since 2010, according to the State Grid.

By the end of Friday, the region has transmitted 801.4 billion kWh of electricity to other parts of China, with nearly 30 percent of the power mainly generated by new-energy sources.

Xinjiang is rich in energy resources, including wind and solar power, and boasts excess power-generation capacity. Making use of power-transmission channels built in recent years, the region now transmits electricity to 20 regions across China.
