China is witnessing a movie frenzy this summer, with a rich variety of themes and genres presented to meet different tastes of audiences.

As July began, movies scheduled for the summer market continued to be released, covering different types like comedy, suspense, animation and literature and art.

Among the summer market movies that have been released so far, crime thriller "A Place Called Silence" was the first to achieve a single-day box office of more than 100 million yuan (about 14 million U.S. dollars).

Directed by Sam Quah, who also made the 2019 hit film "Sheep Without a Shepherd", the movie delves into the topic of campus bullying and is expected to be a highlight among this summer's box office lineup.

The movie's screening rate has risen to 33 percent, with an obvious trend of continuously rising daily box office.

There are nearly 30 movies focusing on realistic themes scheduled for this year's summer market.

Scheduled to be released on August 8, "Upstream," a realistic comedy movie based on real stories from thousands of delivery workers helmed by famous Chinese filmmaker and actor Xu Zheng, finds out how to regain coverage and faith, and seek new direction of life when facing adversity and difficulties.
