Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Dushanbe Thursday evening for a state visit to Tajikistan at the invitation of President Emomali Rahmon.
President Rahmon personally greeted President Xi at the airport.
Local children presented flowers to Xi and welcomed his visit in Chinese and Tajik.
Rahmon then held a grand welcoming ceremony for Xi at the airport, where more than 1,500 young locals dressed in national costumes sang, danced and waved Chinese and Tajik national flags to warmly welcome the Chinese president's state visit to the Central Asian country.
In a written statement upon arrival in the Tajik capital, Xi said China and Tajikistan are good neighbors who help each other, good friends who support each other, good partners with mutual benefit and win-win results, and good brothers who treat each other with absolute sincerity.
Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 32 years ago, China-Tajikistan relations have achieved sustained, rapid and sound development, growing from good-neighborly friendship to a strategic partnership and then to a comprehensive strategic partnership, becoming a model for neighboring countries' relations, Xi said.
The two countries share solid political mutual trust and always firmly support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests, he said.
Noting that China has become Tajikistan's second-largest trading partner, Xi said, their Belt and Road cooperation has yielded fruitful results with two-way trade constantly setting new records.
Xi said he looks forward to working with President Rahmon to make new plans and arrangements for the development of China-Tajikistan relations in light of the new circumstances, so as to take the China-Tajikistan all-round cooperation to a higher level.
On the way from the airport to the hotel, President Xi Jinping's motorcade was warmly welcomed by overseas Chinese and representatives from local Chinese-funded enterprises.
Xi is paying a state visit to Tajikistan after attending the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana and paying a state visit to Kazakhstan.
When Xi left Astana, senior officials including Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov saw the delegation off at the airport.
Three fighter jets from the Kazakh Air Force escorted Xi Jinping's plane after it took off.
