Russia has never refused, and is still willing to continue peace talks on the Ukraine issue, said Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday.

Putin made the remarks when delivering a speech at the extended meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), or SCO plus, in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan.

Putin said the draft deal, which came into being between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul in March 2022, is still "on the table", and can serve as a foundation for further negotiations.

"The Istanbul deal has not disappeared, and I thank Turkish President Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who served as a mediator in this work. The head of the Ukrainian delegation signed the draft deal, which means Ukraine is satisfied with it. The deal remains on the table and can serve as a foundation for continuing the negotiations," said Putin.
