China's Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) in Xi'an City received its first group of Kazakh post-graduate students to continue their studies in China.
The eight students are the first group of postgraduate students enrolled by the NPU Kazakhstan Branch Campus last October.
They have completed courses in Chinese language and mathematics, and passed their dissertation proposal defense in Xi'an not long ago. According to their programs, the students will continue their studies in the Chinese city to complete their degrees.
Dilnaz Kadyrma, one of the eight students, said she is proud and confident to study in China.
"We are so proud to be the first students from our campus to be here, and we’re looking forward to furthering our research experiences. I think we are a little nervous, but we are confident and will try our best," she said.
Professor Zhang Yu of NPU said that the university has dispatched 36 teachers from China this year to teach 12 courses on the Kazakhstan campus on materials science and engineering, computer science and technology, and information and communication engineering to prepare the students for their research projects in China.
"We not only teach the knowledge of conventional courses, but also introduce some latest research achievements. So I believe this will help further broaden the horizons of these Kazakh students," he said.
NPU plans to expand its teaching and create a joint research platform on its Kazakhstan campus, focusing on advanced telecommunications technology, metallurgy, artificial intelligence, internet and other subjects.
Kong Jie, president of NPU Kazakhstan Branch Campus, said the program is expected to deepen the friendship between the two peoples.
"We aim to cultivate talents with professional expertise, strong systematic knowledge, good understanding of China and deep affinity for China, so as to bring up more people to carry forward the friendship between the two countries," he said.
In May 2023, NPU and Kazakhstan's Al-Farabi National University signed cooperation agreements at the China-Central Asia Summit to work together to build NPU Kazakhstan Branch Campus.
