China's Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) in Xi'an City received its first group of Kazakh post-graduate students to continue their studies in China.

The eight students are the first group of postgraduate students enrolled by the NPU Kazakhstan Branch Campus last October.

They have completed courses in Chinese language and mathematics, and passed their dissertation proposal defense in Xi'an not long ago. According to their programs, the students will continue their studies in the Chinese city to complete their degrees.

Dilnaz Kadyrma, one of the eight students, said she is proud and confident to study in China.

"We are so proud to be the first students from our campus to be here, and we’re looking forward to furthering our research experiences. I think we are a little nervous, but we are confident and will try our best," she said.

Professor Zhang Yu of NPU said that the university has dispatched 36 teachers from China this year to teach 12 courses on the Kazakhstan campus on materials science and engineering, computer science and technology, and information and communication engineering to prepare the students for their research projects in China.

"We not only teach the knowledge of conventional courses, but also introduce some latest research achievements. So I believe this will help further broaden the horizons of these Kazakh students," he said.

NPU plans to expand its teaching and create a joint research platform on its Kazakhstan campus, focusing on advanced telecommunications technology, metallurgy, artificial intelligence, internet and other subjects.

Kong Jie, president of NPU Kazakhstan Branch Campus, said the program is expected to deepen the friendship between the two peoples.

"We aim to cultivate talents with professional expertise, strong systematic knowledge, good understanding of China and deep affinity for China, so as to bring up more people to carry forward the friendship between the two countries," he said.

In May 2023, NPU and Kazakhstan's Al-Farabi National University signed cooperation agreements at the China-Central Asia Summit to work together to build NPU Kazakhstan Branch Campus.

China's central bank to conduct temporary repos, reverse repos from Monday

2024-07-08 17:36 Last Updated At:18:07

China's central bank said it will carry out temporary repos or reverse repos based on market conditions starting from Monday.

The move aims to keep liquidity reasonable and ample in the banking system and improve the accuracy and effectiveness of open market operations, the People's Bank of China said in a statement.

These overnight temporary repos and reverse repos will be conducted through bidding, with their interest rates set on the basis of the seven-day reverse repos.

Experts say these operations will further enrich monetary policy toolbox and help the central bank adjust market liquidity in a more timely and accurate manner.

Temporary reverse repos can provide funds to institutions when the market is under liquidity strains, while temporary repos can help drain excess liquidity.

A repo, or repurchase agreement, is a process in which the central bank sells bonds to financial institutions and promises to buy them back in the future.

In the Government Work Report released in March, the country vowed to continue to implement a proactive fiscal policy and a prudent monetary policy this year. It also pledged to maintain adequate liquidity at a proper level and see that aggregate financing and money supply stay in step with the projected economic growth and Consumer Price Index increase.
