China's major airlines will launch direct flights linking Beijing and Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, in July, providing greater convenience for travelers and contributing to the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

For Air China, the national flag carrier, it is set to launch a direct flight route on July 10 from Beijing to Dhaka, with four round-trip flights every week.

In addition, starting from July 15, China Southern Airlines will launch a new direct route from Beijing to Dhaka, China Southern Airlines has said.

According to China Southern Airlines, the service will operate twice weekly, on Mondays and Saturdays.

Bangladesh, located in the northeastern part of the South Asian subcontinent, is the first South Asian country to join the BRI, which aims to improve world connectivity through international cooperation.

In recent years, economic, trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between China and Bangladesh have been increasing. Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

According to official data, there are currently over 300,000 passengers traveling annually between China and Bangladesh.

Trucks loaded with UN supplies enter Gaza as ceasefire takes hold

      2025-01-22 12:06 Last Updated At:12:37

More than 2,400 truckloads of United Nations supplies have entered Gaza in the three days since the Israel-Hamas ceasefire agreement came into effect.

The United Nations (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said 897 aid trucks entered the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, the third day the ceasefire agreement came into effect.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said at the Security Council meeting on Monday that more than 630 trucks with humanitarian aid entered Gaza, with at least 300 of them going to the north on Sunday, while the OCHA confirmed that 915 trucks loaded with aid supplies entered the Gaza Strip on Monday.

"We are doing our part to ensure the rapid scaling up of humanitarian deliveries," said Guterres.

But the UN chief warned that UN agencies still face "significant obstacles, challenges and constraints". He called on all parties to provide "necessary technical, protective and communications equipment".

He also underscored that the parties must coordinate with the UN system in a timely and effective manner, including the restoration of public order and safety to prevent the looting of humanitarian supplies.

In addition, Qatar initiated a land bridge to supply the Gaza Strip with 12.5 million liters of fuel in the first 10 days after the ceasefire agreement took effect, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement Monday. Gaza's Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmud Basal said their future missions remain arduous, as most of the buildings in Gaza are devastated after 15 months of conflict.
