The "Pomegranate Cup" 2024 China Rock Climbing Natural Rock Wall Series opened in Dingxi City, northwest China's Gansu Province from Saturday to Sunday, attracting participants from 13 provinces and municipalities.
Held in the Zheyang Mountain scenic area with a peak standing 2,200 meters above sea level, the event was the series' opening competition of this year.
The site's unique natural rock formations of the area provides the perfect setting for professional rock climbing events, featuring a steep rock wall reaching 120 meters in height with an average slope of 85 degrees.
The two-day competition sets up events for athletes in the men's and women's professional groups, and it also provides open events for male and female rock climbing enthusiasts.
The competition was co-hosted by the Mountaineering Management Center at the General Administration of Sport of China, the Chinese Mountaineering Association and the municipal government of Dingxi.

The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is not only an effective mechanism for boosting China-Africa pragmatic cooperation but also a hallmark of South-South cooperation, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday.
Xi made the remarks during talks with visiting Guinean President Mamady Doumbouya, who is in Beijing for the FOCAC summit.
Noting that Guinea was the first sub-Saharan African country to establish diplomatic relations with China, Xi said the two countries will celebrate the 65th anniversary of their bilateral ties next month. "Strengthening solidarity and cooperation with Africa and other developing countries is the cornerstone of China's diplomacy. The FOCAC is not only an effective mechanism for boosting China-Africa pragmatic cooperation but also a hallmark of South-South cooperation. I'm willing to work closely with you to ensure the success of this FOCAC summit," Xi said.
Doumbouya reiterated that Guinea recognizes that there is only one China in the world and that is the People's Republic of China. Guinea also congratulates China on its achievements in economic and social development, he said, adding that China's advanced development concepts and successful experience serve as a valuable reference for Guinea.
