Urumqi Diwopu International Airport in the capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region handled over 98,000 passenger trips on Sunday, marking a record high since its opening, according to airport management.
The airport has seen a surge in passenger traffic during the summer travel peak, fueled by a mix of domestic and international business travelers, students, and tour groups.
The airport currently operates 22 flight routes to 12 countries and regions, including Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
A new route to Yerevan, capital of Armenia, will launch on Sept 3, and a regular passenger service to Minsk, the capital city of Belarus, will commence on Oct 27.
"We will keep focusing on meeting the diverse needs of passengers during the summer months, providing them with more convenient and high-quality services," said Liang Kaiye, deputy head of the check-in service center of the airport.
