Two freight trains, each with a capacity of 10,000 tons, both successfully completed test runs on Thursday in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

According to the China Railway Urumqi Bureau Group Co., Ltd, one of them, loaded with 10,000 tons of coal, began its journey from the Zhundong North Station and reached the Sanping Station. At the same time, the other freight train successfully operated on the Aksu-Kashgar section of the Southern Xinjiang railway.

At present, the maximum load capacity allowed for trains running on Xinjiang's railways is set at 5,000 tons and the successful trials of the 10,000-ton trains are expected to greatly boost railway load-carrying capability in the region.

"The introduction of 10,000-ton trains aims to enhance the freight supply capacity of strategic railway routes, in order to ensure efficient transportation of coal during summer peak demand, cut logistics costs across society and support the economic development of the economic belt on the northern slope of the Tianshan Mountains and southern Xinjiang," explained Tong Zhenhua, head of the technical division at the transportation department under the China Railway Urumqi Bureau Group Co., Ltd.
