President and CEO of Dubai Chambers, Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, expects to foster increased collaboration with China, particularly in emerging industries like technology.
Lootah expressed his anticipation for pragmatic cooperation with China in emerging fields, during an exclusive interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN) in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday.
2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the China-UAE diplomatic ties, and the two countries have witnessed growing economic ties over the past decades.
Against this background of friendship, the Dubai Chambers will host the "Dubai Business Forum" from August 21-22 in Beijing, the first overseas stop of its flagship event.
According to Lootah, the purpose of this forum is to bring the two sides' businesses closer, promote investment opportunities in both destinations and tap into opportunities for cooperation in emerging sectors.
"Having a flagship event in China in the anniversary of the 40th year, this shows the importance of the Chinese market for us in Dubai. So this was not a coincidence. This was a planned approach to ensure that we appreciate the long-standing growing relationship between China and to try to strengthen the bridge when it comes to business and investment between Dubai and our partners in China," he said.
To promote the development of the digital economy, the Dubai Chambers has established a dedicated branch for this particular field.
In emerging industries, Lootah said he looks forward to increased collaboration with Chinese tech players.
"China is leading in lots of new tech areas. We see a lot of innovation coming from China. We noticed an increased inflow of tech Chinese companies coming into the city. And what's more interesting is that a good number of them are small and medium businesses. And we noticed an increased adoption when it comes to Chinese technologies in Dubai and in the region. And I think it's important to interact more with the Chinese tech players," he said.
"Our colleagues in the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy, they visited specialized tech industrial parks in different provinces of China. Last year, they had very successful roadshows to five cities in China. This year, they're continuing their engagement with the Chinese special economic zone and industrial and tech parks. And I think it's very essential to keep this momentum going to ensure that, with this excellent collaboration, we can adapt the technology that will eventually play an important role in the economic growth," said the chamber head.
