A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) called for studying and applying Deng Xiaoping Theory in a solid and in-depth manner, so as to make new and greater contributions to building China into a great country and advancing the great cause of national rejuvenation on all fronts through Chinese modernization.
Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at the opening ceremony of a three-day nationwide symposium to mark the 120th birth anniversary of late leader Deng Xiaoping.
Cai put forward a seven-point requirement for conducting in-depth research into Deng Xiaoping Theory. He stressed the need to uphold the supreme political principle, that is to adhere to the CPC's overall leadership, especially the centralized and unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee.
Underscoring the importance of emancipating the minds, seeking truth from facts, and continuing to promote theoretical innovation on the basis of practice, Cai urged efforts to keep opening new chapters in adapting Marxism to Chinese context in the new era.
Cai emphasized treading an independent path forward and bolstering confidence in socialism with Chinese characteristics, so as to push forward Chinese modernization with strong resolve and determination.
Noting that reform and opening-up enables the Party and the people to keep pace with the times in great strides, Cai called for actions to comprehensively advance reform in a broader and deeper way.
He also highlighted equal emphasis on material progress and cultural-ethical progress.
It is necessary to have a global perspective with a focus on the future, Cai said, stressing efforts to promote the building of a community with a shared future.
Cai pointed out that the key to solving China's problems lies in the CPC's strong sense of historical responsibility, and social transformation should be charted by the Party's own transformation.
Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the meeting.
Born on Aug. 22, 1904 in Sichuan Province, southwest China, Deng is remembered as "chief architect" of China's reform and opening-up that started in the late 1970s.
