Chinese Para athletics team held a training session in Paris on Friday, as they are gearing up for the upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympics which will be held between Aug 28 and Sept. 8.
Since the Stade de France (Stadium of France) is not yet open for training sessions at this point, the Chinese Paralympians have been training in the athletes village and at two separate training sites provided by the organizing committee.
Veteran para thrower Yao Juan, who just turned 40, will be competing in her seventh Paralympics. She won a total of five gold medals in the previous editions, and the Paris Paralympics might be her last.
Yao will compete in the F44 shot put and discus throw, and is hoping to wrap up her Paralympics journey on a high note.
"This might be my last paralympic games so I want to have a happy ending with best performance this time. Apart from myself, I also hope my students can achieve good results. Some of them are actually going to compete in Paris alongside me. If they can perform well, I will feel another kind of sense of accomplishment as well," she said.
Meanwhile, China's para sprinter Liu Cuiqing, who won two gold medals in Tokyo 2020, will compete in the 100, 200, and 400m T11 category.
As for javelin Paralympic champion Sun Pengxiang, Paris is a special place for him, after he broke the world record and won gold at the World Championships in the city last year.
Sun will compete in the javelin throw F41 category and once again aim to break the world record.
The Paris 2024 Paralympics will be the 11th Summer Paralympics that China participates in.
Established on Aug 16 in Beijing, the Chinese Paralympics delegation consists of 516 people. Among them, 284 are athletes, including 126 males and 158 females, with an average age of 25.8
