Burkina Faso's Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachimson Kyelem de Tambela arrived in Beijing on Tuesday to attend the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which is set to be held in the Chinese capital from Wednesday to Friday.
Kyelem de Tambela's plane landed in the Chinese capital at 19:45 local time.
Located in West Africa, Burkina Faso joined the FOCAC family for the first time in 2018.
China and Burkina Faso have carried out cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, people's livelihood, security, and energy.
The trade volume between the two countries reached nearly 600 million U.S. dollars last year. In the first quarter of 2024, the bilateral trade volume reached 153 million U.S. dollars, representing a 13.3 percent year-on-year increase.
Since the resumption of formal diplomatic ties between China and Burkina Faso in 2018, China has successively dispatched five medical teams to the western African nation, providing medical services to over 14,000 patients, performing over 1,000 surgeries, and offering traditional Chinese medicine treatment to over 13,000 people.
There are approximately 480 students from Burkina Faso studying in China, including 80 government scholarship recipients.
China has also provided economic assistance to Burkina Faso, helping to build hospitals, government office buildings, and sports stadiums.
Following the resumption of diplomatic relations, China has dispatched agricultural technical teams and vocational training experts to Burkina Faso, and provided emergency food aid to the country as well.
The upcoming FOCAC summit will be held under the theme "Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future."
Chinese President Xi Jinping will deliver a keynote speech at the summit's opening ceremony on Thursday
