Green technologies highlight the IFA Berlin 2024, the world's largest trade show of consumer electronics and home appliances, with products that help reduce energy consumption and lower costs most eye-catching.
A refrigerator with an annual electricity consumption of only 105 kilowatt-hours or less than 0.3 kilowatt-hours per day is a typical exhibit at the ongoing IFA, scheduled from Sept 6 to 10.
The freezer is equipped with an insulating board made with perlite, a material that forms vacuum within the home appliance and gives it excellent performance in keeping cool.
"We really drive to be a sustainable company and we look at the whole life cycle of a product to minimize its environmental impact. And we see the highest impact comes from the use phase. So, if we offer an appliance that has low energy consumption, we make a real contribution to protecting resources," said Maria Mack, the exhibitor of the freezer.
Backed by recycling technology, another refrigerator displayed by the company allows its parts to be reused.
Against the backdrop of rising energy price and constrained energy supplies, energy conservation through technology innovation is highlighted at this year's IFA.
A displayed smart charger is an effective solution to increased energy costs for both individuals and families. It stores electricity automatically when energy price is low and release the stored power when price climbs.
"We can use these dynamic changes on the electricity market with the system. Charge the batteries when the electricity price is very low. And then use the stored energy in the house later when the energy is very expensive. And this basically reduces the power costs to around 6.8 cents for one kilowatt-hour. The regular price for one kilowatt-hour in Germany for electricity is around 40 cents," said Nico Sorge, the charger's exhibitor.
This year's IFA has brought together over 1,800 global exhibitors, 125 keynote speakers and more than 182,000 visitors from 139 countries, according to the organizer.
Marking the 100th anniversary of IFA, the event features global tech giants presenting their cutting-edge innovations.
