Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang on Wednesday called for collaborative efforts to promote global governance of intellectual property (IP) in a more equitable and reasonable direction. Ding, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made this remark while addressing the opening ceremony of the Third Belt and Road High-Level Conference on Intellectual Property, which kicked off on Wednesday in Beijing.
Ding noted that China highly values strengthening cooperation on intellectual property protection in the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
President Xi Jinping pointed out that the intellectual property system plays an important role in promoting high-quality BRI construction, and stressed the need to deepen intellectual property cooperation with BRI partner countries and regions, said Ding.
With the joint efforts of all parties, BRI cooperation on intellectual property protection has achieved fruitful results, he noted.
Ding stressed that China is willing to work with all parties to advance the development of intellectual property, injecting more intellectual property resources into the high-quality construction of the BRI.
He called for collaborative support for high-quality intellectual property creation, the implementation of international science and technology cooperation initiatives, and the enhancement of the quality and efficiency of intellectual property review, driving the emergence of more intellectual property through continuous technological innovations.
Joint efforts are urged to implement high-level intellectual property protection, Ding said, calling for a stringent legal approach to crack down on various infringement activities and create a favorable environment for innovation.
Furthermore, he urged the promotion of efficient intellectual property utilization, integrating patents, trademarks, geographical indications, and copyrights, among others, to foster the development of innovative economies, brand economies, regional characteristic economies, and creative economies to support the development of new quality productive forces.
Ding called for collaborative efforts to promote effective global governance of intellectual property, adhering to true multilateralism and advancing the global intellectual property governance system toward a more equitable and reasonable direction.
Participants, including Daren Tang, director general of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), attended the event and addressed the opening ceremony.
Ding also met with foreign dignitaries including Tang before the opening ceremony.
