Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed the importance of prioritizing elderly care and childcare in efforts to improve public services when visiting a local community in Lanzhou, the capital city of northwest China's Gansu Province, on Wednesday.

The Zaolinxi Community located in Lanzhou's Anning District is home to over 11,500 residents spread across 14 residential communities, with the elderly and children accounting for more than one-third of its total population.

At the Party service center in Zaolinxi Community, Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, inspected the comprehensive service platform, the cultural and sports activity room, and the community cafeteria. He inquired in detail about the community's efforts to improve services aimed at benefiting and providing convenience to the residents.

He also visited the nearby Liujiabu Police Station to learn about the implementation and outcomes of the efforts in deploying more officers to do grassroots policing.

He emphasized the need to focus closely on the actual needs of residents, especially the elderly and children, and to continuously improve community services. He also stressed the importance of making grassroots governance and public security more effective and robust.

At the home of retired Party member Li Zongbiao, Xi sat down with the family for a casual chat.

Xi noted that people's well-being is of utmost importance, and the CPC Central Committee is deeply concerned about the happiness and health of the elderly, with significant efforts having been made across various regions and departments in areas such as elderly care, healthcare, and community services. He emphasized the need to continue these efforts and achieve even better results.

At the community square, residents gathered around as Xi spoke to them. Xi said that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and highlighted the great and historic achievements the country has made over the past 75 years.

Xi emphasized that the entire Party and the people nationwide are now working tirelessly to advance Chinese modernization. He urged everyone to unite more closely, work even harder, and strive together to create new and greater successes.

Xi also extended Mid-Autumn Festival wishes, expressing hopes for peace, health, and happiness for all families, as the festival, which falls on Sept 17 this year, is just around the corner.

The third part of China Media Group (CMG)'s Mid-Autumn Festival gala aired on Tuesday night blends traditional Chinese culture with international artistry in a diverse lineup, bringing the audience an unforgettable night of music performance and poetry recitation.

The annual gala broadcast, also known as "Qiuwan" in Chinese, was recorded in Shenyang City of northeast China's Liaoning Province, a 2,300-year-old city boasting three world cultural heritage sites and over 1,500 historical and cultural sites. The city is also one of the most well-known industrial cities in China.

Themed "Moon Bright", the third part of the grand gala features an array of classic songs, reunion-themed narratives, and touching performances. Highlights include a music adaptation of the famous Chinese poem Qing Ping Diao by Tang Dynasty Poet Li Bai (701-762), which captures the essence of ancient Chinese beauty and expression; and a middle-school chorus from the Macao Special Administrative Region, singing about their love for the country and hopes for a brighter future.

The third segment of the show also features celebrated French musician Richard Clayderman, who enchants the audience with his timeless A Comme Amour a breathtaking rendition of The Butterfly Lovers concerto. The concerto, inspired by the tragic love story of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, is a modern classic that intertwines Chinese folklore with romantic Western composition techniques.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the night when the moon reaches its fullest and brightest on the 15th day of the eighth month on the lunar calendar. This year, the day fell on Tuesday (Sept 17). During the festival, families reunite, admire the moon, share the traditional festive pastry of mooncakes and light up lanterns.
