The cumulative cargo volume transported through the cross-border China-Laos Railway had exceeded 10 million tons as of Monday, since its entry into full operation on Dec. 3, 2021.
On Monday, a cold chain international train loaded with fresh vegetables, seasonal fruits and other goods slowly drove out of Mohan Station on the Chinese side of the China-Laos Railway, signifying that the cumulative international cargo transportation handled by the China-Laos Railway had exceeded 10 million tons.
The China-Laos Railway starts from Kunming, southwest China's Yunnan Province in the north and ends in Vientiane, the capital city of Laos in the south. Cross-border cargo transportation covers 12 countries co-constructing the "Belt and Road" including Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, and major cities in 31 provincial-level regions in Chinese mainland. The average daily train count on the railway has grown from two in the early days following its entry into operation to 17 currently.
"In order to improve the quality of train operations and meet the customers' demands for timely transportation, we monitor the loading progress in real time, schedule the shipping in a scientific manner, and coordinate the transportation organization to ensure smooth journey," said Li Hongxing, deputy director of the Kunming Logistics Center under the Kunming Railway Bureau.
In order to further improve the quality of cross-border cargo transportation and provide diversified logistics options for domestic and foreign companies, the railway department has continuously innovated freight service models. It operates two fixed-time "Lancang-Mekong Express" international freight train runs every day, and also launched special train services such as the China-Laos-Thailand international freight train services, and cold chain special train services for fruit and vegetable.
