The ongoing eighth Silk Road International Expo (SRIE) in Xi'an, northwestern Shaanxi Province, is showcasing innovative technologies and products, demonstrating the country's commitment to greater connectivity, economic integration, and technological advancement under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Running under the theme "Deepen Connectivity and Strengthen Economic and Trade Cooperation," the five-day event which opened Friday features five exhibition areas, featuring exhibitors from 41 countries and 73 international business associations and enterprises.
Pakistan serves as the guest country, with China's Liaoning and Shandong provinces taking on the role of guest provinces.
The event boasts over 10 important meetings and activities, including the opening ceremony, the signing ceremony, and outcome releases, with key events including2024 Shaanxi International Economic and Trade Cooperation Development Exchange, the Qinchuangyuan Technology Achievement Roadshow, and the China (Shaanxi)-South Korea Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum.
The expo, held at the Xi'an International Convention and Exhibition Center, spans a sprawling 72,000 square meters, showcasing the resource advantages, characteristic industries, and products of countries and regions along the Belt and Road, as well as the provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities of China.
Alongside the physical expo, the SRIE has also adopted an integrated online and offline approach to provide comprehensive services for domestic and international exhibitors, buyers, and industry professionals.
The expo also serves as a stage for the debut of cutting-edge technologies and innovations.
Among the many innovative products on display, the "Yuntu No. 1" unmanned full-area inspection vehicle for airport runway stands out. This cutting-edge vehicle, launched just last month, can conduct underground inspections at depths exceeding 3 meters, with a ground inspection accuracy of millimeters and an inspection speed of 20 kilometers per hour.
"It integrates our most advanced ultra-wideband frequency ground-penetrating radar system and is equipped with optical lenses to detect cracks and misalignment on airport runways. It also features a radar bird detection system to ensure safety during takeoff and landing," said Lin Fei, sales manager of a technology company based in Xi'an.
This unmanned full-area inspection vehicle is not limited to airport applications. It can also be equipped with urban cleaning sanitation vehicles to conduct regular inspections on municipal roads. The data collected is then uploaded to a platform for automatic AI recognition and analysis, providing a guarantee for refined management.
Another innovative product making its mark at the expo is the disposable sterile retractable self-destructing syringe.
This medical innovation, currently in clinical use in some hospitals, features a needle that retracts into the syringe after injection, preventing secondary injury to medical personnel and cleaning staff. The syringe can also be broken after use, preventing reuse.
"The distinguishing feature of this injector is that after injection, the needle can automatically retract at a 45 degree angle into the wall. This can prevent accidental injuries to medical staff and cleaning personnel. After use, the needle can be broken off, to prevent re-use of the syringe. Traditionally, needles have four sides, but this needle has six to eight sides. This multi-sided shape can reduce pain for patients during injections," said Jiang Kaiping, staff member of a Xi'an-based medical technology company.
Last year, the first China-Central Asia Summit was also held in Xi'an, the historical starting point of the ancient Silk Road. The summit has created a new platform and opened up new prospects for China-Central Asia cooperation.
