Five-star red flags -- China's national flags, have colored many Chinese city streets into red, with potted flowers put along them, adding festive atmosphere for the upcoming National Day holiday of the country.

China's National Day falls on Oct 1. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Landmark road sections in Liulin County of north China's Shanxi Province have been decorated with Chinese national flags. In Shuozhou City of the province, the five-star red flags have also been hung on the light poles of many key road sections and garden squares.

Shanxi's Yangquan City sees an elaborately-designed festive floral decoration in an urban park, attracting many visitors.

In the southwest, Chinese national flags are fluttering along the major road sections in Jiangyou City, a county-level city of Mianyang, Sichuan Province.

In south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the city of Fangchenggang is decorated with flower beds and featured landscapes.

The century-old Binzhou (Harbin–Manzhouli) Railway Bridge in Harbin, the provincial capital of Heilongjiang in the northeast, is neatly decorated with more than 100 giant red flags. National flags are also ubiquitous at other landmark spots across the city.

"The festive atmosphere here is thick. We are very happy to see our motherland is getting ever more prosperous and stronger," said Guo Zhiqin, a local resident. Changning District in Shanghai has decorated its streets with more than 100,000 pots of flowers.

"We were born in the new society and grew up under the red flag. So, we feel really excited with surging emotions at the sight of these decorations," said an elderly resident.

In Yangzhou City of east China's Jiangsu Province, Chinese national flags are hung in historic and cultural blocks, creating a unique festive atmosphere among the antique buildings.

The city has planned dazzling light shows on dozens of landmark structures during the seven-day National Day holiday.

Israel claims killing Hezbollah leader in Beirut airstrikes

2024-09-28 19:29 Last Updated At:20:07

The Israel Defense Forces announced on Saturday the killing of Hassan Nasrallah, leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah, following Israel's airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut, capital of Lebanon.

According to the announcement, Israeli Air Force (IAF) jets conducted targeted strikes on the Hezbollah headquarters located in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Nasrallah, along with Hezbollah's southern front commander, Ali Karki, and other Hezbollah armed commanders, was killed in the airstrikes.

Hezbollah has not responded to the announcement.

At around 18:20 local time on Friday, IAF jets conducted a series of airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut, with reports of massive explosions continuing to be heard in the Lebanese capital. Reports suggest that this is the largest airstrike by Israel on Beirut since the conflict between Hezbollah and the Israeli military broke out last October.

Born in 1960 in the outskirts of Beirut, Nasrallah traveled to Iraq's province of Najaf at the age of 16 to study religion. In 1982, he joined the newly formed Hezbollah. In February 1992, following the death of Abbas al-Musawi, the Hezbollah leader at the time, in an Israeli airstrike, the 31-year-old Nasrallah took over as the party leader and has since served as its secretary-general.

Nasrallah openly opposed Israeli aggression, refused to recognize Israel as a state and rejected any reconciliation with Israel. Under his leadership, Hezbollah has continued to target Israeli objectives. His eldest son also died in combat against the Israeli military.
