KANPUR, India (AP) — Mominul Haque posted an unbeaten 102 Monday to lift Bangladesh to 205-6 at lunch on Day 4 after the rain-interrupted second cricket test against India finally resumed.

Bangladesh started the day at 107-3 on Monday after rain or a wet outfield prevented any play on the weekend.

Mominul celebrated his 33rd birthday on Sunday and followed up with his first test hundred against India the morning after.

It was a 13th test hundred for Mominul and only the second by a visiting Bangladesh batter on Indian soil. At the interval, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was giving him company on six not out.

The day started on a pensive note for Mominul as he survived an early appeal for lbw. He was adjudged caught at short leg off Mohammad Siraj, but survived through DRS review.

There was underlying moisture in the surface and India put its pace bowling options to good use. Jasprit Bumrah provided the breakthrough, bowling Mushfiqur Rahim for 11 to end a 32-run fourth-wicket stand.

Siraj dismissed Litton Das in the second half of the session, out caught for 13 to make the total 148-5.

Ravichandran Ashwin provided another big wicket, sending back Shakib al Hasan (9) as Bangladesh slipped to 170-6. The veteran allrounder was caught at mid-off with Siraj putting in a superb catch pedaling backwards.

It could have been a double breakthrough for Ashwin, but Mominul survive a dropped chance when on 93.

On Friday, India won the toss and opted to field for the first time in a home test since 2015 because of the conditions. But rain set in early, with all 35 overs bowled on a rain-truncated opening day. Rain and a wet outfield had meant that day two and three were abandoned.

India won the first test in Chennai by 280 runs to lead the two-match series.

TOKYO (AP) — Shigeru Ishiba, the head of Japan’s governing party, said on Monday he plans to call a parliamentary election on Oct. 27 after he is formally elected as prime minister on Tuesday.

Ishiba was elected party leader to succeed outgoing leader Fumio Kishida in a party vote Friday. Ishiba is assured to be elected as next prime minister because the Liberal Democratic Party and its ruling coalition controls parliament.

Ishiba has said he will hold an election as soon as possible to seek the public's mandate for his policies.

Kishida bowed out of the race to pave the way for a fresh leader to shake off the party's damaging scandals that dogged popularity of his government.
