Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has pointed out that the role of the United Nations should be strengthened, said a Foreign Ministry spokesman on Monday.
Lin Jian, the spokesman, made the statement at a press conference in Beijing, in response to a media query on the statement delivered by Wang at the General Debate of the 79th Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
Wang, also a Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended the General Debate of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly at the UN Headquarters in New York on Saturday, and delivered a statement entitled "Building on Past Achievements and Forging Ahead Together Toward a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind," Lin noted.
"Foreign Minister Wang Yi noted we are facing a changing and turbulent world and meanwhile, we are also embracing a world full of hope. The security of all countries is tied together, the development of all countries is deeply integrated, each civilization has its own strengths and countries should all enjoy sovereign equality. The United Nations embodies the aspirations of people across the world for lasting peace and common prosperity, and bears witness to the glorious journey of the international community coming together in pursuit of progress. The role of the UN should be strengthened, not weakened," said the spokesman.
"Foreign Minister Wang Yi elaborated on the significance of Chinese modernization to the world. He pointed out that the People's Republic of China will soon celebrate the 75th anniversary of its founding. Over the past 75 years, no matter how the world changes, China's dedication has not changed. It is dedicated to pursuing happiness for the Chinese people and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
