Increasing enthusiasm in cycling has been driving up the sales of bikes and bike gears in China as a growing number of people are choosing biking as a means to keep fit and make friends.

According to the dealer of a bike shop in Shenyang, northeast China's Liaoning Province, sales has increased 43.6 percent year on year in the January to August period.

Ran Xiangsong is one of customers choosing equipment in the shop. For cyclists, it is important to choose bikes and related equipment that are suitable to themselves to ensure safety and improve riding experience.

"I'm a little bit heavy, and riding mountain bike will help me keep fit while not hurting my knees. I'll also buy some protective equipment including bike helmet, cycling cloth and shoes," said Ran when he is choosing a mountain bike in the shop.

Lao Shan Cycling Service Station, a bike shop located near the training area of Chinese national cycling team in Beijing, has also seen a surge in sales as it attracts numerous cycling enthusiasts with a wide array of bikes and bike gears.

"Cycling becomes increasingly popular. Turnovers of this shop have jumped 80 percent year on year,"said Tian Yi, the shop owner.
