Ports in south China's Guangdong Province are seeing a significant surge in cross-border travel to the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) during the week-long National Day holiday.
The National Day holiday, starting on October 1 and known as "Golden Week," is one of China's largest annual public holidays.
According to statistics, in the first three days of the holiday, Gongbei Port recorded 1.09 million crossings, with an average of 360,000 crossings per day.
Hengqin Port in Guangdong recorded 270,000 crossings from October 1 to 3, with a daily average of 90,000 crossings.
This year, short-distance cross-border travel has been popular among residents, and China's Macao SAR has launched a series of activities, including fireworks shows, ship tours, and consumption discounts, to attract tourists from the Chinese mainland.
"We came from Foshan City to visit Macao," said Yang, a tourist from Guangdong Province.
The week-long holiday gives many travelers the opportunity to explore popular destinations.
"We're going to Macao during the National Day holiday to take some photos and have some fun," said Chen, another tourist.
To ensure security during the travel rush, customs authorities in Guangdong analyzed tourist flow in advance to strengthened personnel guidance and maintain customs clearance order.
"We have strengthened cooperation with Macao customs, ports, and police departments to jointly carry out passenger flow control, law enforcement cooperation, and emergency response during peak periods of inbound and outbound travel," said Yan Huanhuan, a customs officer responsible for tourist security checks.
