Representatives from renowned think-tanks, scholars and experts from China and Brazil have gathered this week in Rio de Janeiro for a seminar focused on the two nations' growing ties.

Co-hosted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the Brazilian Center for International Relations, and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, the China-Brazil Cooperation and Global Governance Conference featured discussions of multilateralism, global governance, and sustainable development, and how the two sides can enhance collaborative efforts.

It comes as the two countries commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties.

"We are looking to the future; we are ready to face the next 50 golden years to build a bright and shared future," said Gao Xiang, president of the CASS.

Divided into three panels, the seminar brought together experts from Brazil and China, who first addressed shared challenges like protectionism and the push for global governance reforms.

"We need to build a fair, inclusive and of course a better presentation of developing countries in global governance. So those are the key areas that both countries share, and we need to develop solutions throughout events. This is a think tank conference, and we discuss issues, we propose policy recommendations, which hopefully send it to our leaders and they can consider to take action," said Gao Haihong, director of the International Finance Research Center at the CASS.

The second panel examined the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, focusing on how China and Brazil can cooperate to achieve green and innovation-driven growth.

Esther Dweck, Brazil's Minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services, stressed that the key lies in technological, green and social development that is inclusive and equal.

"The digital transition is changing the whole world as it has to be, but of both of them, the green transition or the ecological transition and the digital transition have to be with inclusion: reducing inequalities within countries and between countries," she said.

The final panel focused on the friendly cooperation between the two countries, highlighting how it has boosted development, improving the well-being of their populations, and contributing to global prosperity.

Brazil and China have enjoyed five decades of strong diplomatic relations, and experts agree that these discussions reflect both nations' ongoing efforts to strengthen these ties and promote their growing influence on the global stage.

China's first large-scale civil aviation tire production line begins operation

2024-11-23 19:52 Last Updated At:20:07

China's first large-scale production line for civil aviation tires is now operational in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with an expected annual output of 100,000 high-performance tires.

On Thursday, an Airbus A320 landed smoothly in Guangxi's Guilin City, marking the first successful test flight of a civil aviation aircraft fitted with domestically produced aviation radial tires.

The aviation tire was developed by Lanyu Aircraft Tire Development Company, a subsidiary of Sinochem Holdings.

Currently, this new digital civil aviation tire production line can produce tires for six different aircraft models and 12 specifications. Previously, the tires produced by the production line had already been compatible with aircraft models such as the C909, B737, and A320.

At present, 98 percent of the aircraft tires used in China's civil aviation are imported. The operation of the new production line marks a significant step, as China has now gained the capacity to domestically produce tires for its aircraft models. "There are more than a thousand tire companies in the world, but only a dozen can produce aviation tires. The completion of this production line represents a key breakthrough in China's aviation tire manufacturing, marking the shift from zero to one. The line's capacity can meet around 40 percent of the current domestic demand," said Lu Hengyu, a principal of the Lanyu Aircraft Tire Development Company.

In addition to serving domestic customers, the company also plans to expand into overseas markets, with the goal of achieving large-scale commercial use of its tires by both domestic and international airlines.
