The great motherland will always stand firm behind compatriots from Taiwan, no matter where they are or what difficulties they face, said a Chinese mainland spokesman in Beijing on Wednesday.

Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks at a press conference in response to a media inquiry about the evacuation of nationals by China considering the worsening situation in Lebanon. Among those evacuated was a compatriot from Taiwan.

"We stay in close contact with local compatriots from Taiwan and offer timely assistance, including providing consular services, assisting in resolving civil disputes as well as economic and criminal cases involving Taiwan-related issues in foreign countries, evacuating nationals from Libya, Yemen, and Sudan, and responding to dangers such as the outbreak of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and typhoons and earthquakes," Chen said.

"I would like to stress again that the great motherland will always stand firm behind compatriots from Taiwan, no matter where they are or what difficulties they face," he said.
