China stands ready to work together with all parties to pursue steady and sustained progress in greater BRICS cooperation and promote world peace and development, Lin Jian, spokesman of China's Foreign Ministry, said at a regular press conference in Beijing on Monday.
Lin made the remarks in response to a question on China's expectation for the 16th BRICS Summit.
"I would like to reiterate and emphasize that this year marks the first year for greater BRICS cooperation. The upcoming BRICS summit will be the first-ever summit of an expanded BRICS, thus drawing widespread attention from the international community. Since the establishment of BRICS, its member countries have consistently acted on the spirit of openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation, stayed true to BRICS' founding purpose of seeking strength through solidarity and remained committed to upholding multilateralism, thus becoming a positive and stable force for good in international affairs," said Lin.
"During the summit, President Xi Jinping will have in-depth exchanges of views with leaders of BRICS member countries on the current international landscape, practical BRICS cooperation, development of the BRICS mechanism, and important issues of mutual interest. China stands ready to work together with all parties to pursue steady and sustained progress in greater BRICS cooperation, usher in a new era for the Global South to gain strength through unity and promote world peace and development," said Lin.
At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, President Xi Jinping will attend the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia from Tuesday to Thursday.
