Residents of Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip are reeling from the aftermath of a devastating Israeli strike on Saturday, with many victims still trapped under the rubble, relying on the rescue of local civil defense forces, which have very limited rescuing capabilities.

The Israel military conducted another airstrike in Gaza on Saturday, targeting a residential area in northern Gaza's Beit Lahia. According to Sunday's statement from the Palestinian Health Ministry, the airstrike had left 87 people dead or missing and over 40 others injured, marking the most devastating attack with the highest casualty toll in months.

Many residents were trapped under the debris after the attack, while local rescue resources were constrained.

"More than 40 people are still trapped under the rubble, and the civil defense is trying to get them out. The means by which the civil defense to get them out is quite outdated, and the capabilities are very limited. Now, our friends and neighbors are still trapped beneath the rubble. We pray to Allah for their safety and for someone to be sent to rescue them from beneath the rubble," said Ahmed Al-Hajin, a local resident who witnessed the attack and who was displaced due to the bombing.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday condemned Israel's airstrike as "genocide". The Israeli military later announced on Tuesday that it has carried out investigations on the attack.

Xi is in Kazan, the capital city of Russia's Republic of Tatarstan, to attend the 16th BRICS Summit, at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Xi is set to attend small- and large-group leaders' meetings and the BRICS Plus leaders' dialogue, and will deliver important speeches. Xi will also have in-depth exchanges with other state leaders on the current international situation, practical BRICS cooperation, the development of the BRICS mechanism and other important issues of common concern.

Xi's entourage, including Cai Qi, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau and director of the General Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and foreign minister, arrived on the same plane.

BRICS is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The upcoming summit is the first to be held after the BRICS expansion in January when Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were included into the bloc.
