The 16th BRICS Summit from Tuesday to Thursday in Russia's Kazan offers a rare opportunity to seek solutions to global issues against the backdrop of the current international situation, said Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui.
Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived at the Kazan International Airport on Tuesday to attend the summit in the city at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Speaking to a China Media Group (CMG) reporter at the airport ahead of Xi's arrival, Zhang highlighted the significance of the summit in tackling international issues and driving the BRICS cooperative mechanism forward.
"President Xi's BRICS Summit trip is first of all aimed at promoting cooperation among BRICS countries and further advancing the development of this cooperative mechanism. This is a rare opportunity to find solutions to global issues such as security and development, and to address subjects regarding further cooperation among BRICS countries, especially under the current circumstances," said the Chinese ambassador.
"Also, I believe other countries' leaders are looking forward to hearing China's voice and President Xi's speech through this platform, and hope that China can put forward more plans for BRICS' development," he added.
