China has made remarkable progress in development of the intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs) industry, with a comprehensive industrial system for ICVs sector basically taking shape, according to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

According to the latest official data released by the ministry, currently more than 50 Chinese cities have launched demonstrations of ICVs road testing, with 32,000 kilometers of roads opened for tests. Meanwhile, about 10,000 kilometers of roads have been upgraded for ICVs, with the installation of over 8,700 sets of roadside units.

China has established a complete industrial system for the ICVs, covering basic chips, sensors, computing platforms, chassis control, and connected cloud control, according to the ministry.

Nearly 400 "little giant" enterprises that apply specialized, sophisticated, characteristic and novel technologies have been fostered to produce unique and novel products, with five lidar companies ranking among the top ten globally in terms of the sales volume.

"China's advancement in ICVs has entered a new phase, transitioning from technical validation to industrialized and large-scale development. We will continue to promote the integration of 'vehicle-road-cloud,' drive infrastructure construction, and establish an industry ecosystem for collaborative development of the entire automobile industry," said Guo Shougang, deputy head of the First Department of Equipment Industry of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in an interview with China Central Television.

According to the ministry, with rapid development of big computing power, big data, and large-scale models, significant breakthroughs are expected to be made in the development of advanced autonomous driving technology.

In future, efforts will be made to facilitate integral development of automobiles with smart grids, intelligent transportation, and smart cities with data as a bridge.

2024-10-23 16:03 Last Updated At:16:37

The BRICS summit has become an important platform for fostering a multipolar world and enhancing international cooperation, said Alexey Maslov, a prominent Russian expert on international affairs and a leading authority on China.

The three-day 16th BRICS Summit kicked off on Tuesday in the Russian city of Kazan. In a recent interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN), Maslov, director of the Institute of Asian and African Studies at Moscow State University, discussed the significance of BRICS nations in today's international landscape and the summit's dedication to addressing key global issues for mutual benefit.

"First of all, I must point out that BRICS has become an important platform for international cooperation. It brings together many countries and sets a series of goals. First, its goal is to keep the world economy stable and conduct economic dialogue. BRICS is committed to promoting economic and trade exchanges and creating a comfortable environment for businesses. China has brought up a number of proposals in this regard and they've been raised well before this summit. Then, BRICS nations are committed to promoting collective security. We see that BRICS is becoming an important summit of a multipolar world. It guarantees not just military security, but also cybersecurity and food security, and other areas," he said.

BRICS began with Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and has now evolved into an influential international cooperation mechanism with an expanded membership.

In addition to the countries that officially joined the BRICS family on January 1, 2024, more than 30 countries including Thailand, Malaysia, Türkiye and Azerbaijan have either formally applied for or expressed interest in membership.
