The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said Thursday that it is conducting a probe into PVH Corp. of the United States for suspected discriminatory measures and other practices violating market trading principles regarding Xinjiang-related products.

The U.S. company, which owns fashion brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein, is suspected of boycotting cotton products from northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region without any factual basis and terminating normal transactions with Chinese companies as well as other organizations or individuals, according to the ministry.

He Yadong, spokesman of the commerce ministry, disclosed that the investigation is progressing in an orderly manner and according to the law, and the ministry will fully protect the rights of PVH to explanation and defense.

He said the ministry will make appropriate decisions based on the findings of the probe in accordance with the regulations of the unreliable entity list.

The spokesman said despite the incident, China always welcomes foreign companies to invest in China.

"China has consistently handled the issue of the unreliable entity list with caution, targeting only a handful of foreign entities that disrupt market rules and violate Chinese laws. There's nothing to worry about for honest and law-abiding foreign entities. The Chinese government has always been welcoming companies from around the world to invest and do business in China and been committed to providing a stable, fair, and predictable business environment for law-abiding and compliant foreign enterprises operating in China," he said.

China's top political advisor Wang Huning has stressed forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation and advancing the development of a beautiful Xinjiang during a four-day research tour of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region that ended on Thursday.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, called for solid efforts to promote ethnic unity in community-level governance, school education and people's daily life while visiting hospitals, primary schools and villages.

He also urged building a modern industrial system and enhancing higher education development when visiting enterprises and colleges.

While visiting the Kashgar Area of the China (Xinjiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) and an international trade market in Kashgar, Wang noted that Xinjiang should explore a unique path of opening up, establishing a stronghold for China's westward expansion.

Maintaining social stability is a priority in Xinjiang-related work, Wang said, urging efforts to strengthen the sense of community for the Chinese nation among people of various ethnic groups by promoting fine culture in the region.

He also urged efforts to promote high-quality development in Xinjiang to consolidate the economic foundation for social stability and long-term security in the region.
