Iranian lawmakers on Tuesday warned that Israel's recent attack on the Islamic Republic merits a substantial response.
Israel carried out airstrikes on military bases in western and southwestern Tehran early Saturday, killing at least four soldiers, according to Iran's Fars News Agency.
The Israeli attack came in response to Iran's missile barrage against Israel on Oct 1, itself a retaliation for the killing of Iran-backed militant leaders and a Revolutionary Guards commander.
"Iran's response will definitely strengthen the resistance groups and will punish the aggressor. It will come in a way that Israel will receive a strong response from Iran for violating its sovereignty," said Ahmad Rastineh, an Iranian member of Parliament (MP).
"We demonstrated that we are not defenseless against the Israeli violations. The majority of missiles they fired were intercepted by Iran, and the damage and number of fatalities were very limited," said Jafar Qaderi, another Iranian MP.
"The entire world, and in particular Muslims, have clearly witnessed Israel's unwise policies. Israel should wait for a response. They should expect a response that will make them regret everything. They will not dare act like this again," said Iranian MP Ali Khazaei.
Also on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi said that Iran reserves the right to respond to the Israeli attacks last weekend but will not act hastily.
At a meeting in the Iranian capital with foreign ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions, the United Nations offices and international organizations in Iran, Araghchi said Iran had successfully curbed Israeli aggression and proved its ability to safeguard national security, but Israel must be held accountable for what it had done.
The Israel Defense Forces announced early Saturday that it conducted "precise and targeted" airstrikes on targets in Iran in response to recent attacks from the country. Iran's air defense headquarters said it successfully countered the Israeli attacks, which resulted in only "limited damage."
