Spain's Utiel Municipality is grappling with unparalleled devastation after a deadly flash flood unleashed by unrelenting rainfall in past two days.
Located along riverbank, the town is among the hardest-hit areas in Valencia Autonomous Community. Houses have been severely damaged by the flood, with cars, furniture, and essential items swept away. Local residents have been forced to evacuate to safer locations.
The deadly flood has nearly shattered their lives, said local residents.
"I live just around the corner. The flood tore through my garage door, inundating my house. Windows and doors were smashed, carrying away everything - my bike, motorbike, and tools from the garage. It's a disaster, a colossal disaster," said Ricardo, a local resident.
The flooding has caused widespread power outages throughout Valencia, disrupting telecommunication services and isolating tens of thousands from the outside world. With many roads impassable, critical supplies like drinking water and food are unable to reach those affected.
"My phone only sporadically connects to the internet. The signal barely reaches our area. Whether we can use the internet depends on the service provider. Communication is unstable; we can't even reach each other," said Antonio, another resident.
Heavy rainfall from Oct 30 to 31 pounded the eastern and southern regions of Spain, resulting in flash floods and rising water levels. This catastrophic weather led to severe flooding in Valencia.
As of Thursday afternoon, the death toll in Valencia stand at 155. Multiple roads in eastern and southern Spain have been severed, with railway services linking Valencia to Madrid, Barcelona, and other locations temporarily halted.
