Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the 7th minister' meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) via video link in Beijing on Tuesday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said over the past 25 years, CICA has implemented confidence-building measures, promoted dialog, and enhanced cooperation, becoming an important constructive force in Asia.
As a founding member of CICA, China has actively participated in its processes and consistently supported its development, he said, adding that China has twice served as the chair, setting up dialogue mechanisms such as the think tank forum and financial summit and coordinating efforts in seven fields of confidence-building measures as a coordinator or co-coordinator.
Wang also expressed appreciation for Kazakhstan, as the initiator and longest-serving chair, for its abundant contributions to fostering mutual trust among Asian nations. He congratulated Azerbaijan on assuming the chairmanship, expressing confidence in CICA's continued progress.
Wang emphasized that as the world undergoes accelerated transformations unseen in a century, marked by turbulence and change, the pressing desire of most countries is to ensure security, promote development, seek cooperation and achieve mutual benefit. CICA can play a unique role in building an Asian community with a shared future and expanding new opportunities for win-win development.
Wang proposed four points of action: adhering to peaceful coexistence and pursuing common security, jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and promoting prosperity and development, respecting diverse civilizations and fostering exchanges and mutual learning, and practicing multilateralism and building a shared home.
Wang stressed that China's development is inseparable from Asia and also injects strong momentum into Asia's growth. Chinese modernization follows a path of peaceful development, offering more opportunities for Asian countries.
China is ready to work with CICA members to uphold its original mission, strengthen solidarity, and jointly shape a new form of Asian civilization featuring shared development and mutual benefit, he said.
Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu highlighted the achievements of Kazakhstan during its two-year term as the CICA chair.
The new chair, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, outlined priorities for the next phase.
Participants emphasized the importance of solidarity, mutual trust, deepened strategic collaboration, and strengthening CICA mechanisms amid a complex and volatile international landscape.
They agreed to enhance CICA's influence, join the Global South in addressing global challenges, and build a vision for peace, stability, openness, inclusiveness, resilience, and sustainability.
Discussions also included better alignment of the BRI with the Global Security Initiative, promoting regional interconnectivity, enriching cultural exchanges, particularly among the youth, and fostering mutual understanding.
The meeting adopted outcome documents on improving confidence-building measures and other aspects.
