New equipment, including the J-35A fighter jet, will debut at the upcoming 15th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, also known as Airshow China, the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force announced on Tuesday.
The air show, scheduled for Nov 12 to 17 in the port city of Zhuhai in south China's Guangdong Province, has attracted 1,022 companies from 47 countries and regions. Russia, France, the United States, Saudi Arabia and Italy will participate in the biennial aerospace trade show in groups.
Apart from the J-35A medium-sized stealth fighter, the HQ-19 surface-to-air missile weapon system and a new attack reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle will also be unveiled for the first time at the air show, said Niu Wenbo with the Air Force equipment department at a press conference.
"At the air show, China's Air Force will participate in the event in Zhuhai with a more open approach, demonstrating the charm of the Air Force in the new era. For the first time, we will display new equipment such as the HQ-19 surface-to-air missile system and a new attack reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle. The J-35A medium-sized stealth fighter will also be showcased," said Niu.
One day ahead of the press conference, the PLA News Media Center released a photo of the J-35A fighter on social media, fueling public anticipation for new equipment.
The unveiling of the J-35A marks the moment when China's Air Force will operate two stealth fighters simultaneously: the J-20 and J-35A, thus making China become the second country in the world to possess two stealth fighters at the same time.
"We know that the public has many requests for the Air Force's new equipment, and their sense of urgency is also clear. Please believe that we have heeded these calls. What we can tell you is that the Air Force has been steadily advancing the development and assembly of various new equipment as planned, and at the appropriate time and place, more powerful weapons will be unveiled," said China's Air Force spokesman Xie Peng.
The air show coincides with the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force, which falls on Nov 11.
