A variety of foods and agricultural products from different countries look impressive and mouth-watering at the food section of the ongoing 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, luring flocks of visitors.
The CIIE is the world's first national-level exposition dedicated to imports. Running from Nov 5 to 10 under the theme of "New Era, Shared Future," the seventh CIIE has attracted participants from 152 countries, regions and international organizations to participate in its country exhibition and business exhibition.
Among them, nearly 3,500 exhibitors from 129 countries and regions are taking part in the business exhibition, while a record number of 297 Fortune Global 500 companies and industry leaders are attending the event.
The exhibition area for foods and agricultural products is undoubtedly one of the most popular areas at the CIIE, where over 1,600 exhibitors from more than 100 countries and regions are presenting their distinctive delicacies. It is the area with the largest number of exhibitors at this year’s CIIE.
The area has set up eight sub-areas for dairy products; fruits, vegetables and agricultural products; crop seed industry; alcohol; coffee, tea and beverage; meat, aquatic products and frozen foods; snack foods, sweets, and condiments; and other food.
Food exhibitors are showcasing organic and healthy local specialties and various processed agricultural and food products with modern technology in the area covering over 85,000 square meters.
A Panamanian coffee brand has brought top beans from the Baru Volcano area at an altitude of more than 2,000 meters, where the east-to-west terrain causes cold air to flow through the central mountain range, creating a unique microclimate group.
The nutrient-rich volcanic soil, high-altitude cultivation and tropical rain forest together create the world-famous Panama coffee.
The coffee beans produced in Panama have a very special taste, with the fragrance of jasmine flowers and bright citrus flavors.
At the sixth CIIE held last year, a 3.1-meter-long bluefin tuna weighing 374 kilograms became a star exhibit in the food and agricultural products area. An even bigger one has amazed visitors at this year’s expo. The bluefin tuna from the Atlantic waters, weighing 388 kilograms and measuring 3.2 meters long, is the largest ever imported into Shanghai.
With this year marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-France diplomatic relations, France features as a guest country of honor at this year's CIIE.
A concentrated exhibition area for French agricultural and food brands was set up for the first time at this year's event, to promote more French agricultural and food products to enter the Chinese market through the platform of the CIIE.
The exhibition area for African products has also been further expanded, showcasing characteristic African agricultural products such as shea butter, coffee, sesame, peanuts and soybeans, helping more African products to tap into China's super-large market.
Meanwhile, many multinational enterprises and Fortune 500 food enterprises continue to deepen their presence in the Chinese market and have actively participated in the CIIE, saying that they are optimistic about China's development prospects.
This year’s CIIE for the first time set up a buyer's corner to assist small and medium-sized enterprises in entering the Chinese market.
A total of 15 key buyers, including e-commerce platforms, large supermarkets, restaurants and international trade companies, will make a five-day on-site presence at the exhibition area.
