Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim in Beijing on Thursday, calling on the two sides to take the opportunity of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties to promote and enrich the China-Malaysia community with a shared future.

Noting that China and Malaysia are good neighbors, good friends and good partners, Xi said the two countries have maintained close interactions and exchanges at all levels and advanced mutually beneficial cooperation with high quality on all fronts since Anwar's first China visit in March last year after taking office as prime minister, delivering tangible benefits to the two peoples.

China and Malaysia are both at crucial stages of national development and rejuvenation, Xi said.

He called on the two sides to take the 50th anniversary of China-Malaysia diplomatic ties and the Year of China-Malaysia Friendship as an opportunity to deepen and consolidate the building of a China-Malaysia community with a shared future, support each other in realizing respective development goals, and make new and greater contributions to regional stability and prosperity.

Xi said China and Malaysia should develop high-level strategic partnership, maintain close high-level exchanges, strengthen experience-sharing on state governance, enhance political mutual trust, and firmly support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns.

Xi called for efforts from the two sides to strengthen the docking of development strategies, deepen mutually-beneficial cooperation on all fronts, continuously promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, effectively implement flagship projects including the "Two Countries, Twin Parks," create new growth points of cooperation such as digital economy, artificial intelligence and new energy, and explore the establishment of an exchange and cooperation mechanism on poverty alleviation.

Xi said China welcomes Malaysia to promote its quality specialty products in China through the China International Import Expo, noting China stands ready to work together with Malaysia to deepen exchanges and cooperation in higher education, culture, tourism, youth and at the sub-national level, so as to strengthen the people-to-people bond for bilateral friendship.

As important developing countries and emerging economies in Asia, China and Malaysia should enhance communication and cooperation on international and regional issues, firmly support each other, jointly oppose protectionism, promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, advocate an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally-beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, promote the reform and improvement of the global governance system, and jointly uphold international equity, justice and the common interests of fellow developing countries, said Xi.

Anwar said Malaysia appreciates and supports President Xi Jinping's important visions including building a community with a shared future for mankind and Xi's ideas including those on promoting "BRICS Plus" cooperation.

He said the Malaysian government is committed to further deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership with China, and strengthening cooperation in information technology, digital economy and energy. He said Malaysia admires China's achievements in poverty alleviation, and looks forward to learning from China's governance experience.

Anwar said Malaysia is willing to work with China to strengthen multilateral coordination and safeguard regional peace, stability, development and prosperity.
