Syria, an all-time participator of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) has taken it as the best-selling platform for the country's knockout products and its national pavilion for this year's event targets at a promising scalability in the vast Chinese market.

Previously, Syrian companies have showed up with corporate pavilions to showcase the country's fine product at the grand annual import expo.

Back in 2018, the first CIIE saw the presence of some 20 Syrian enterprises, and products they brought including soaps, rose herbal tea and essential oils were instant huge hits. Popularity and sales of Syrian products have steadily increased in China since then.

In this year's expo, Syria's national pavilion displayed a wide range of products, including local sweets and snacks.

"Quite delicious and unlike any that I had before, these felt so fresh like they were just picked," said a visitor about pistachios from Syria.

"These are the new products we brought this year to CIIE. This is the Arabic sweet. It's handmade, and the main ingredient are Aleppo pistachio and nuts. It's very popular in Syria. We hope the Chinese consumers taste it and like it." Muhannad Shakally, the person in charge of the national pavilion, introduced.

Shakally has been stationed in the Syria import pavilion in Shanghai since the last CIIE as market demand soared for his country's products.

"We are looking forward to continuously work with the Chinese market, because, you know, trading between Syria and China is not something new, it's very old - from the history of the Silk Road," he said.

Syrian companies, including many longtime participants of the CIIE, expressed great enthusiasm in coming to the expo.

(We) started from zero, but now after seven years, we have [greatly expanded] in Shanghai and other cities in China. We have two shipments per month, every shipment maybe 1,000 of Aleppo soap piece, and we will participate every (CIIE) because [we have very good reasons through CIIE]," said Mohammad Bakdash, representative of Dakka Kadima, a Syrian natural soap company.

In addition to unique products, several Syrian travel agencies, airlines, and hotels also took part in the expo, promoting Syria's rich cultural and tourism resources and helping to strengthen the cultural ties between the two countries.

The seventh CIIE was held in Shanghai from Nov 5 to 10.
