A business delegation from China, led by China's trade promotion council, will participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit in the Peruvian capital of Lima from Nov 13 to 15, aiming to strengthen Asia-Pacific economic cooperation and discuss emerging sector regulations, said a council official.

Taking place on the sidelines of the annual APEC Summit, which runs from Nov 10 to 16 under the theme "Empower. Include. Grow," the CEO Summit is expected to draw over 1,000 C-level executives, thought leaders, and government representatives. Themed "People, Business, Prosperity," this year's edition will focus on innovative approaches for the region's most pressing challenges.

In an exclusive interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN) in Beijing, Zhang Shaogang, vice president of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), discussed the upcoming visit of a business delegation to the APEC CEO Summit, emphasizing the delegation's diversity and broad representation, and noting that a key focus of this exchange will be on emerging sectors.

The vice president announced that the delegation will include over 120 representatives from more than 60 Chinese companies spanning a range of sectors, including infrastructure, energy, finance, biotechnology, e-commerce, artificial intelligence (AI) and international trade.

"The China council for the promotion of international trade, namely CCPIT, will lead a large business delegation to participate in the APEC CEO Summit in Peru. The delegation is comprised of more than 120 representatives from over 60 Chinese companies covering multiple sectors such as infrastructure construction, energy, finance, biotechnology, e-commerce, artificial intelligence (AI) and international trade," he said.

Zhang emphasized that the delegation's goals include advocating for an open Asia-Pacific economy, promoting sustainable development, and exchanging ideas on shaping new-generation rules for a variety of emerging sectors.

"With this visit, the Chinese business delegation hopes to signal a strong voice to support an open Asia-Pacific economy, explore ways to push forward sustainable development in this region, and share thoughts and ideas on developing new generation rules on AI, digital trade, green development and other new and emerging sectors," said the vice president.

Established in 1989, APEC has grown into one of world's largest multilateral trade bodies. Initially composed of twelve members, including the United States, Australia, Japan, and Malaysia, APEC welcomed China in 1991, followed by Peru, Russia, and Vietnam in 1998.

Bringing together around 20,000 participants, including heads of state and dignitaries from 21 member economies across Asia, the Pacific, North America, and South America, APEC aims to foster sustainable economic growth and prosperity in the region.
