HA and ZOC-SYSU sign agreement to enhance ophthalmology services in Greater Bay Area.

Hospital Authority and Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-Sen University sign three-year collaborative agreement

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The Hospital Authority (HA) and the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-Sen University (ZOC-SYSU) signed a three-year (2024-2027) collaborative agreement today (November 13) to strengthen exchanges and collaboration with an aim to enhance the quality of ophthalmology services in both places through mutual learning and complementary strengths, contributing to the development of healthcare services in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

The Chief Executive of the HA, Dr Tony Ko, and the President of the ZOC-SYSU, Professor Lin Haotian, signed the agreement in Guangzhou to set out the collaboration framework, which includes exchange meetings and visits, training of healthcare talent and other collaborations. Both parties will actively explore further collaboration in various areas, such as hospital management, healthcare service development, training for healthcare talent, clinical research and ophthalmology services, to improve the quality of services for both parties.

Dr Ko stated, "The ZOC-SYSU is the largest public ophthalmic hospital on the Mainland as well as the only eye hospital under direct administration of the National Health Commission. It has previously deployed outstanding doctors and nurses to participate in the HA GBA Healthcare Talents Visiting Programmes. Building on this strong foundation, we hope to deepen exchanges and collaboration with the ZOC-SYSU through this agreement, implement more systematic professional exchange projects, and jointly promote healthcare integration and development in the GBA."

Dr Ko added that in line with the Government's policies, the HA will continue to enhance the capacity and quality of public healthcare services. Meanwhile, the ZOC-SYSU's comprehensive service model and system offer valuable opportunities for learning.

The HA looks forward to further strengthening collaboration in hospital management and service development between the two parties. It also hopes to enhance training for healthcare talent and two-way exchanges to improve healthcare services at both institutions for the benefit of patients.

Tropical Cyclone Toraji situation report (1)

The Hong Kong Observatory issued No. 8 Northeast Gale or Storm Signal at 11.10pm yesterday (November 13).

The Home Affairs Department has so far opened 27 temporary shelters in various districts and 101 people have sought refuge at the shelters.

As at 2am today (November 14), the Government's 1823 Call Centre received one report of fallen trees. The Fire Services Department and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department have not received any reports of fallen trees. No report of landslide or flooding has been received so far.

According to the Hospital Authority, as at 2am today, no people have sought medical treatment at the Accident and Emergency Departments at public hospitals during the typhoon period.
