The launch of the Global South Think Tanks Alliance will facilitate different countries to pool resources and work together in carrying out research and innovation, said Royson M. Mukwena, vice chancellor at Mulungushi University on Thursday.
The think tanks alliance was officially launched at the opening ceremony of the second Global South Think Tanks Dialogue in Nanjing, east China's Jiangsu Province on Thursday.
Initiated by the International Department of the Communist Party of China, the think tank alliance is jointly established by over 200 universities and think tanks from China and abroad, including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and China Central Television (CCTV).
It was established with the aim of implementing the important consensus put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping during the "BRICS Plus' leaders" dialogue in Kazan, Russia, to promote people-to-people exchanges and the sharing of governance experience.
"This alliance has come at the right time. We did not have a coordinated manner of jointly working together in issues of research, in issues of innovation, in issues of sharing of knowledge. So this alliance gives us a platform where we can pool our resources and work together," said Mukwena.
A closer network of partnership will be built under the think tank alliance, aimed at fully leveraging the strengths of think tanks and contributing more insights for the Global South to join hands in pursuing development.
